Jeffrey Manchio, Research Fellow (Class of ’05) – Oral presentation at the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association meeting in 2005.  First author in a manuscript published in Annals of Thoracic Surgery (2005;79:1991-8).  Currently a resident in plastic surgery at Univ of Michigan and a fellow in plastic surgery research at Lahey Clinic.
Michael Kwon, BS (Class of ’06) – Co-author of 5 abstracts and 2 manuscripts.  He gave an oral presentation at the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, 2006.  Currently a resident in surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and planning a career in CT surgery.  Recently received an NRSA F32 Fellowship to continue cardiac surgery research.
Michael Collins, BS (Class of ’08) – His efforts have been recognized by a first prize award at the 2005 Medical Student Research Day ($500 award) and as a Caves Award Finalist at the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), 2006.  Has also given oral presentations at ASTS 2006 and ISHLT 2007 and has a first author publication in JHLT (2007;26:376-83).  Currently a resident in surgery at Yale Hospital and planning a career in CT surgery.
Zachary Kon, BS (Class of ’09) – Gave oral presentations at the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (ISMICS) 2006, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association 2006 and Association of Academic Thoracic Surgeons (AATS) 2007.  He has a first author manuscript in the ISMICS society’s journal (Innovations 2006;1(5):232-8) which received the Robert Emory Young Investigator Award and a $5000 prize.  He also has first author manuscripts JTCVS (2008, 135(2):367-75) and EJCTS (2008, 33(2):215-21).  He was the recipient of a $5000 Summer Intern Scholarship in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the AATS and the Medical Student Research Award, with a $500 prize.  He is the inaugural resident for the 6-year “integrated” cardiac surgery tract at the University of Maryland where he continues his research activities.
Emile Brown, BS (Class of ’09) –He gave oral presentations at the Second Annual Academic Surgical Congress 2007 and AATS in 2007.  First author on manuscripts in the Journal of Biological Optics and JTCVS.  Was awarded a $5000 Summer Intern Scholarship in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the AATS.  He is currently a surgical resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital and planning a career in academic surgery.
Nick Burris, BS  (Class of ’10) – Has given oral presentations at AATS 2006, ISMICS 2006 and Southern Thoracic Surgery Association meeting 2007.  Is the primary author of manuscripts in the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery(2007;133:419-27) and Innovations (2006;1(6):323-7).  His primary focus on the use of catheter based infrared imaging to evaluate bypass conduits has resulted in a US patent (60/811,916).  He was the recipient of Excellence in Research Award for University of Maryland Medical School in 2009.  He is in his residency at UCSF (radiology) and plans a career in research.
Michael Grant, BS (Class of ’10) – He gave oral presentations at the Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association 2007, Society of Thoracic Surgery 2008 and AHA Scientific sessions 2008.  His efforts have been recognized by first prize awards at the 2007, 2008, and 2009 Medical Student Research Day ($500 award).  He was the recipient of Excellence in Research Award for University of Maryland Medical School in 2010.  He is in a residency position at Johns Hopkins (anesthesia) and plans a career in research.
